WMCC by GuardianStorm
Project log: Here
To end this month's edition of Mod of the Month, we have one final scratch build for you. This one is a mix of wood an metal and following a popular theme this month, it's also water-cooled.
WMCC, in case you were wandering, stands for Wooden Media Centre Case. However it's no slouch, featuring an Intel E8200 and HD 4850, both of which are water-cooled by a hefty Black Ice 360 triple 120mm radiator.
The project is already quite far along and has found it's place on GuardianStorm's TV cabinet, totally out-doing the other things there. Still, there's plenty more to do so we thought we'd give GuardianStorm his place in modding history as an honourable nominee this month.
To start with, the project mainly focussed on woodwork, making the motherboard tray, side mount and radiator mount using some big boys toys in GuardianStorm's garage by the looks of things. Above we can also see the rear panel fitted to the motherboard tray.
One side of the case sports the Black Ice radiator. This design actually looks very efficient with the air being passed straight through the case from one end to the other. Another thing we were impressed with here was the fact GuardianStorm successfully re-located some capacitors on his graphics card after they ended up fouling the waterblock. At least we assume it still works...
Here's a later update of the project showing the cooling system in a much more completed state along with the the core components in place too. The gorgeous mid section is made up of a single piece of aluminium which GuardianStorm bent to shape - good job!
Finally we can see the case in a nearly complete stage with a slot cut out for the optical drive too. The aluminium sheet looks fantastic and we can't wait to see the finished article.
